Mining News Pro - Caterpillar has launched its new 6040 hydraulic mining shovel fitted with added engine configuration to elevate its efficiency.
Boasting two fuel-efficient Cat C32 engines, the new shovel has the appropriate settings to meet US EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage V and China Nonroad Stage III emission standards.
The twin C32 configuration is also complemented by an engine package including maintenance-free diesel oxidation catalysts, while the shovel doesn’t require diesel exhaust fluid/AdBlue or diesel particulate filters.
With an engine oil extension and heavy-duty undercarriage, the 6040 hydraulic mining shovel is a versatile vehicle designed to reduce maintenance costs and increase uptime.
Other improvements on Cat’s 6040 shovel include an increased service life with its heavy-duty load rollers and idlers now featuring duo cone seals, steel-back bronze bearings and fixed axle technology. Such innovations are also designed to eliminate overheating during travel.
The 6040 hydraulic mining shovel connects to Cat MineStar Solutions’ comprehensive suite of integrated technology, with the manufacturer’s Product Link Elite hardware also available, delivering enhanced communication and data transfer to both local servers and clouds at the same time.
The announcement of Caterpillar’s new 6040 hydraulic mining shovel comes after the manufacturer purchased mining data and communications company Minetec from Codan in June for approximately $US14 million ($18.07 million) – a move that saw Cat take another step into the tech world.
Codan deemed the company more capable in scaling Minetec to its full capabilities, with Minetec’s technology already fully integrated into Caterpillar’s MineStar Solutions.
Minetec delivers tracking and data, as well as software applications to address productivity and safety issues in underground mining.
