Mining News Pro - METS Ignited has launched the CQ Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) Accelerator Program with Queensland’s Rockhampton Regional Council to commercialise innovative projects for the mining sector.
The program, which is also supported by the Queensland Government, will allow local small and medium sized businesses to pitch their mining solutions to benefit the industry.
According to Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams, the mining industry’s strong presence in the region benefit from the program.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our local start-ups to get the support and guidance they need to take their product to the next level and revolutionise the mining industry,” he said.
“Additionally, participants can benefit from unique access to expert knowledge and advice from industry representatives.”
The program will be hosted by Rockhampton Regional Council’s SmartHub.
“SmartHub Rockhampton is thrilled to be hosting this program, delivered through a series of face-to-face and online workshops by experienced mining executive Marcus Lang,” Williams said.
“We can’t wait to see local businesses tap into new opportunities and secure future work as a result of this program.”
The program is delivered by METS Ignited while funding will be supported by the Queensland Government’s Queensland Mining Equipment, Technology and Services 10 Year Roadmap and Action Plan.
Queensland’s action plan was released in 2017 and aims at improving growth in the local METS sector, with many initiatives such as the METS accelerator program being delivered in collaboration with METS Ignited.
Applications for the program will close July 27 with the program operating between August and October 2021.
Eligible applicants are required to have registered companies that, or are about to, operate and employ in the Rockhampton or Central Queensland Region.
They must also supply into Queensland’s mining, energy and resources sectors or have plans to do so, while having an innovative cost-saving or production service or product for mining.
