Vista Gold appoints all-stage mine veteran Ferguson to head Australian business
Vista Gold, which holds one of the largest development-stage projects in Australia called Mt Todd, has appointed Gavin Ferguson MD of Vista Gold Australia, effective September 7.
Ferguson brings to the position more than 35 years of international mining experience across mine development, project execution, operations, business transformation and executive leadership.
Most recently he worked as GM of the Carlin Mining Complex for Nevada Gold Mines, where he oversaw five underground mines, three openpits and five processing facilities producing about 1.4-million ounces of gold every year.
Ferguson has also held positions with Kinross Gold, K92 Mining, Teranga Gold, Newmont Mining, Anglo Platinum, Platinum Australia and AngloGold Ashanti. His experience includes major operating turnarounds, mine restarts, greenfield and brownfield project developments, feasibility studies, owner-operator transitions, major capital projects and stakeholder engagement across multiple jurisdictions.
“His wide-ranging experience leading some of the world’s largest gold operations, together with his project development and turnaround experience, adds exceptional technical, operational and project execution capability to Vista Gold’s team.
“Ferguson’s appointment underscores our commitment to building a strong Australia-based leadership team to advance Mt Todd. We are confident that he will play a vital leadership role in developing the project and creating long-term value for our shareholders,” states Vista Gold president and CEO Frederick Earnest.
Vista Gold is working to start detailed engineering and design work on Mt Todd in 2027, followed by a 27-month period of design, construction and commissioning.
