Queensland Mining Awards showcase best-in-region solutions
Winners of the Queensland Mining Awards have been announced, highlighting best-in-class solutions and innovation across the state.
Attracting over 70 entries across nine categories covering productivity, technology, innovation, safety, collaboration and environmental initiatives, the awards were voted on by a judging panel of industry experts, producing a cohort of 26 finalists.
The black-tie gala dinner held in Mackay as part of the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) attracted over 600 distinguished guests to celebrate the best the local mining sector has to offer.
Presented by the Bowen Basin Mining Club (BBMC), the awards ceremony hosted a number of keynote addresses, including from the Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last and chief executive of the Queensland Resources Council Janette Hewson.
“Our people, their ideas, expertise and resilience is what continues to shape our resources sector – one of Queensland’s most important industries,” Hewson said.
“The achievements and standard set at this year’s Queensland Mining Awards is why the Queensland resources sector is world-class.
“I am especially proud of the local and regional talent right here in the Bowen Basin and Mackay that is driving our sector forward,” she said.
This sentiment was echoed by the director of the BBMC Jodie Currie, who noted the awards are a real highlight on the mining calendar.
“Over 12 years ago, these awards came about to showcase the industry here in Queensland and to highlight the excellence and innovation,” Currie said.
