Mining News Pro - Rio Tinto has awarded Civmec with a contract for significant development works at Rio Tinto’s Mesa A operational hub in the Robe Valley, Western Australia.
The project will encompass the development of three new mining deposits and supporting infrastructure for Rio Tinto’s existing Mesa A and Mesa J hubs.
Under the contract, Civmec will supply, fabricate, modularise, transport, erect, modify, install and commission structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation and communication work for the Mesa A wet plant.
This will include the screening, surge bin, scrubbing facilities and associated conveyor systems, transfer towers, sub stations and all piping and cabling for underground services.
The fabrication is due to commence at Civmec’s Henderson facility in the coming weeks and employ about 200 people.
On-site structural, mechanical and piping will require about 240 workers at the peak of the project, which will begin later this year.
Electrical work, meanwhile, is due to start early next year, providing around 100 jobs.
Civmec is no stranger to Rio Tinto, having worked together and provided maintenance across Rio Tinto’s other sites.
“Rio Tinto has always been a good client for us and we have a long history of supporting the safe, high quality and timely delivery of their projects in Western Australia and Queensland,” Civmec chief executive Patrick Tallon said.
“We are very pleased to have secured this opportunity to partner with them again.”
This contract, combined with other recent work orders for Civmec’s maintenance division from Rio Tinto has a combined value of $165 million.
Civmec’s total order book value now stands at $895 million.
