MP Materials Q3 results beat expectations on rising sales

Rare earths company MP Materials on Thursday posted an adjusted third-quarter profit that beat analysts' expectations due in part to rising sales, financial support from the US government and a contract with a US aerospace customer.

The company’s stock gained 3% in after-hours trading after falling more than 6% on Thursday amid a broader market selloff.

Rare earths are a group of 17 metals used to make magnets that turn power into motion. In July 2025, the US government invested in MP and said it would fund the company as part of an agreement tied to market prices. The deal was designed to loosen China’s grip on rare earths, which go into weapons, electric vehicles and many electronics.

MP Materials controls the only rare earths mine in North America and processes those critical minerals in California. The company has also built a magnet facility in Texas.

The Las Vegas-based company posted a quarterly loss of $20.7-million, or 12 cents per share, compared to a loss of $41.8-million, or 24 cents per share, in the year-ago period.

Excluding one-time items, MP earned 4 cents per share during the quarter. By that measure, analysts expected a loss of 2 cents per share, according to IBES data from LSEG.

The results were boosted by $8.1-million in price protection income from the US government. The company has received nearly $120-million since those payments started last year.

Revenue nearly tripled to $147.6-million.

MP said it began supplying SEG+, an intermediate product containing several rare earths, to an unnamed US aerospace customer during the quarter, bringing in $31.6-million in revenue.

US President Donald Trump in June reported capital gains in the range of $100,001 to $1-million from investments last year in shares of MP Materials.
