Tehran Stock Exchange Main Index Retreats
The Tehran Stock Exchange faced heavy selling pressure on the first day of the week, and the main index, with a drop of more than 160,000 points, registered a heavy fall while maintaining the 8-million-point channel.
The Tehran Stock Exchange main index in today’s trading, Saturday, October 17, 2026, fell 160,561 points to reach 8,265,000 units, starting the week with one of its notable declines. This drop occurred under circumstances where, despite heavy downward pressure, the main index still managed to maintain the 8-million-point channel.
Simultaneously with the main index decline, the equal-weighted index also fell 33,688 points to the 2,192,000-unit range. The simultaneous decline of both indices shows that selling pressure was not limited to a few large symbols but affected a broader segment of companies’ shares.
In today’s Tehran Stock Exchange trading, 869,933 trades were recorded, and the trading value reached approximately 32 trillion tomans. The significant trading volume alongside the heavy index decline indicates high trading activity on a bearish day; however, for a more precise assessment of the intensity of supply and investor behavior, examining the net inflow and outflow of real money and the supply-demand balance is also necessary. Among the symbols influencing today’s Tehran Stock Exchange trading were Fmeli, Fars, Foolad, Taban, Shasta, Tapico, and Vaghdir.
Farabourse Decline Alongside Tehran Stock Exchange Fall
On the other side of the capital market, the Iran Farabourse also experienced a downward trend in today’s trading. The Farabourse main index fell 1,111 points to retreat to 64,902 units. The number of Farabourse trades on Saturday reached approximately 585,000, and the symbols Marun, Fazar, Aria, Koghar, Saman, Neshkar, and Vamapna were among the symbols influencing this market’s index.
Selling Pressure; Another Test for Maintaining the 8-Million Channel
The more than 160,000-point decline of the main index at the start of the week, along with the significant drop in the equal-weighted index and the Farabourse decline, presents a picture of negative sentiment prevailing over stock market trading. The alignment of the main and equal-weighted indices can be a sign of the breadth of selling pressure in the market; however, without information on the number of positive and negative symbols and money flow, a definitive judgment about the exact dimensions of this pressure cannot be made.
Under such conditions, maintaining the 8-million-point channel is psychologically important for the main index, but by itself does not mean a return of demand or the end of the downtrend. The continuation or intensification of selling pressure in the coming days’ trading, the behavior of real and legal investors, and the market’s ability to absorb supply are among the factors that can determine the short-term direction of the Tehran Stock Exchange.
