Canadian gold developer Discovery secures seasoned Downie
Discovery Mining has appointed William Shaver director and Ewan Downie adviser to the president, CEO and chairperson.
The company also split the COO position between former Canadian operations senior VP Duncan King and mineral processing senior VP Gord Leavoy.
Shaver brings to the board more than 60 years’ experience of management in mining construction, operations and mine design. He co-founded Dynatec Corporation in 1980, which grew to become a leading contracting and mine operating group in North America.
Shaver most recently worked as COO of McEwen Mining.
In turn, Downie is an accomplished mining executive, entrepreneur and company builder with more than 30 years of experience in the exploration and mining industry. Downie founded i-80 Gold Corporation where he worked as CEO until 2024. He also founded and headed Premier Gold Mines until its takeover by Equinox Gold in 2021. Downie further founded the original Wolfden Resources and worked as its CEO from 1995 until 2007, before the company was acquired by Zinifex.
Discovery president, CEO and chairperson Tony Makuch says Shaver and Downie are highly skilled and experienced mining professionals who will make valuable contributions to the future success of Discovery as it pursues extensive growth plans in Canada and Mexico.
