Mining News Pro - Exploration company Develop has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tjiwarl Contracting Services (TCS) to establish businesses that would provide contracting services to mine sites.
Under the MoU, Develop will assist TCS set up, fund and operate the contracting businesses before TCS assumes full ownership of them once it has established the required capability.
The agreement will allow TCS to access Develop’s supply chain, contracts and capability development.
Contracting opportunities include Bellevue Gold’s gold project in WA, where Develop is the underground mining contractor.
“The joint venture framework we have put in place with TCS has potential to generate vast economic benefits for the TCS community,” Develop managing director Bill Beament said.
“But more importantly, it is structured in a way which will provide members with life-long business skills, commercial relationships and ownership of a substantial asset base.”
The joint venture will also look at including the provision of regional freight services between Kalgoorlie and the Bellevue gold project.
The contracts are estimated to have a combined value of $50 million over three years.
“This approach is aimed at helping to ensure that members have the skills, knowledge, experience and funding to self-determine their futures,” Beament said.
“That’s why the agreement allows for Develop’s interests in the joint venture to be transferred to TCS for no sale price at the appropriate time.”
Tjiwarl representative Kado Muir said the partnership would combine Develop’s expertise with the energy and spirit of Tjiwarl traditional owners.
“The partnership represents a significant shift for mining and business opportunities on Tjiwarl Country away from transactional interactions towards genuine equity relationships in resources projects,” Muir said.
