Mining News Pro - OceanaGold has resumed operations at the Macraes and Waihi mines, after the New Zealand government eased Covid-19 restrictions for all regions, except Auckland and Northland.
The two-week shutdown, coupled with measures implemented to adhere to strict public health protocols, would result in the company’s New Zealand operations producing between 4 000 oz and 5 000 oz of gold less this year.
CEO Michael Holmes said that OceanaGold had strict health and safety protocols in place to safeguard the wellbeing of its workforce.
"We will continue to manage the risks associated with the Covid-19 virus with the health and safety of our workforce being paramount. We will continue to keep the market apprised of any Covid-19 impact to our business for which we are well prepared. Over the course of the remaining months, we will continue to look for opportunities to make up for the decrease in production as a result of the Covid-19 impacts,” said Holmes.
